!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , I decided that PNW Oppo should do a trip up the Sea to Sky Highway which according to !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! is “It’s one of the world’s most spectacular seaside drives and is a veritable invitation for a road trip.” Also... a dangerous road (although less so after the 2010 Olympics refresh). I can guarantee you, it is one of the most if not the most scenic drives in the PNW.
I’m trying to gauge interest for an April/May run. As mentioned below, overnight maybe a good idea. It’s a short drive, but so much to see and the traffic can suck midday. Overnight would allow us to drive down earlier in the morning on one of the worlds absolute best roads.
If your interested or if locals have ideas of things to see/do, let me know. If you really are interested and you live in the USA, get a passport so you can come!
There is tons to see and do along the road which raises the possibility of an overnighter to help accommodate our American friends and make the drive more engaging by allowing us to stop for sights and meals. I would want to make it budget friendly.
I’d want to make the drive from Metro Vancouver (Fort Langley?) to Pemberton, BC. From Vancouver to Pemberton is only 95 miles, but there is so, so much to see along the way.
Possible stops:

Beautiful drive. Based on my experience, I recommend not having a driver who is so sleep deprived that she doesn’t notice the minivan she’s over-taking until it’ s a couple feet away. But other than that, really nice!

I that sounds like a pretty good idea. I’ve been wanting to do this drive anyway and this would be a good excuse.

Where are you located?

If I’ve managed to find a fun-to-drive car by then, I may have to make an attempt. Pencil me in under “extremely over-committed to other responsibilities, but still wants to keep it in mind.”

oh! nice and close then. I am down there frequently

yeah I’ve been wanting to attend an oppo meet for a while but had work or vacations every time so far

May, you say? I could be in the area.

I’m down. If nothing more pressing comes up before then.

I’m thinking about it. I’ve got a passport, and the Queen should be ready for the trip, though I have no idea about the paint condition.

That’d be cool! It would be good to meet more Canadian Oppo’s

Sound s like a good 3-4 day vacation idea. The area is a day and a half drive for me
![]() 11/05/2018 at 15:22 |

Honestly, the area is worth it. You have Vancouver close by too. Plus the exchange rate is in the favour of the USA

Just one thing makes me a bit spooked: The fact that the word “dangerous” is even involved. My car was damaged in a low-speed accident in Seattle’s downtown, so I’m understandably on edge about going anywhere that may be higher risk.
![]() 11/05/2018 at 15:29 |

It’s mostly winter, but it is very twisty and hilly. They call it the “ski and die” rather than sea to sky sometimes
![]() 11/05/2018 at 15:32 |

the real question is which car do I take. The journey would be a lot more epic in the Rabbit, but a lot easier in the BMW

Whatever has less of a chance of stranding you in a different country

That is good advice. That I want to ignore

Solid maybe here, depe nds on the day of the week/time of day too. I really don’t want to have to sit for three hours trying to get through that fucking tunnel again.
![]() 11/05/2018 at 16:03 |

Hmm. Okay. Once I have my car’s body panels fixed up, I’m probably going to go on a random drive out to nowheresville to get reacquainted with the Queen .

I’m probably interested if its in the May or later timeframe. I definitely want to come up there again and do a driving/hiking adventure so this would fit into my plans nicely. I will keep my eye on flight sales that popup since there are definitely flights around ~$50 to Seattle if booked in advance. Sounds like fun!

There are some fun rentals out there =)

I’ll most likely be in, but it’s also too far in the future for me to know for sure. So put me down for a probably definitely maybe

I’m provisionally interested. I tend not to like twisting, winding roads with lots of heavy a cceleration/heavy braking and blind curves (I know, take away my Oppo card), but the fact that this entire drive takes place on a “ highway” , with not much opportunity for someone to get lost, has got my attention.

That’s a very Oppo attitude.

This sounds good! April/May is at the end of my window of “need to take a vacation”, but might not be enough time to get the BMW ready after spring thaw for a long trip, But the truck is always good to go.
Last time we drove sea to sky (uphill) the fastest vehicle on the road was a cabover box van, he was absolutly flying. I would love to hit some good BC roads again.

I missed this post till I saw the link on your post this morning but if we plan this out in advance and cement in some dates I’m most likely in bar major life changes. Actually the whole reason I missed the last one was an entire-weekend plan came up so between overlanding all Labor Day weekend and O ppo-cruise Saturday with twiddling my thumbs at home Sunday and Monday I had to pick the overlanding. I’m always down to spend a weekend exploring someplace new.

Having been on this road it’s dangerous as in if you’re texting or not paying attention or driving too fast when it’s slick in the winter and go through the guardrail you’re falling off a cliff(said cliffs are also why it is such a beautiful drive). It’s not high accident risk like downtown Seattle where there are just too many cars in too small of a space.
![]() 11/08/2018 at 15:22 |
|
That’s true. Let’s never speak of Seattle again, I have no intention of returning to that city.

Count me in. With any luck I'll have the Miata in summer mode by then

I’d fly to SeaTac if you want a co-pilot and to split fuel! Might need a place to crash for a night or two.

You are more than welcome to co-drive! Although fair w arning... If it’s raining I’ll probably just rent somethin g cool off Turo. Multi-day Miata trip with the top up would be awful.

No turbobrick?
It’s a little early out to plan solid details, but I’ll give you a shout when it’s closer to May.

Shh! Dont say that too loudly. It will hear you and then intentionally break itself.
